Install the Android app
Use these steps if the APK does not open or install.
Version %1$s, %2$s bytes, SHA-256 %3$s
Verify the file
The download page shows the expected byte size and SHA-256, which identifies the exact file. In your phone’s file manager, press and hold the APK. Open Details and compare the exact size in bytes.
Open it from the file manager
If you cannot open the APK from the browser’s download list, open your phone’s file manager. Open Downloads. Tap the APK there.
Allow “Install unknown apps”
Android grants this permission to the app that opens the file. In Settings, search for “Install unknown apps”. Select Firefox, Chrome, or the file manager that you used. Turn on “Allow from this source”.
Xiaomi HyperOS on mainland builds
In Settings, search for “Pure mode”. Turn off “Pure mode” for this installation. Search for “Install unknown apps”. Select the app that opens the APK. Turn on “Allow from this source”. Turn “Pure mode” on again after installation.
Google devices
If you see “App scan recommended” in Play Protect, select “Scan app”. Continue only after Play Protect reports “This app looks safe”. You can also continue when the standard Android installer opens without a Play Protect warning. Never select “Install without scanning”. Stop if the result is unsafe, blocked, failed, or ambiguous.
Install a file from WeChat
Ask the sender to send the APK as a file in WeChat. Open the file from the chat. In the WeChat file view, open it with the installer. Compare its filename and byte size before installation.
Keep your data during an update
Download the newer APK. Install it over the existing app. Do not uninstall first. Android keeps the app data because the update uses the same signing certificate.
