English-Italian, live, both directions
From a supplier in Bologna to grandparents in Calabria, English-Italian conversations happen at work and at home. All Voices interprets both directions while people talk and keeps every line in both languages.
Lei or tu
English has one “you”. Italian chooses between the formal Lei and the familiar tu, and the choice changes the verb as well as the pronoun. When an English sentence is translated into Italian, the translation has to pick one. All Voices picks from the context of the conversation; there is no setting to force one or the other. In a first meeting with a client, read the Italian side with that in mind, and check the form of address before you copy a translated line into an email.
Where this pair shows up
Manufacturing and design supply chains, the food and wine trade, property purchases in Italy, and families in which the grandparents’ Italian never reached the grandchildren in London, New York or Melbourne. Many of these conversations are about quantities, dates and prices, and the transcript keeps them in both languages, with the audio of every line to replay.
Standard Italian and the dialects
Italian is one of the languages marked as supported in All Voices. Standard Italian across regional accents is what speech recognition handles best. Strong dialect, such as Neapolitan or Sicilian spoken among family, is harder for every speech system; when the result matters, ask people to speak standard Italian, or check the line against the recording.
Italian business speech borrows English words freely: il meeting, la deadline, il budget. All Voices identifies the language of each line as it is spoken. We have measured sentences that switch language halfway for German, Chinese and English, not yet for Italian, so check the transcript the first time your team mixes the two.
Questions people ask
Can All Voices translate between English and Italian live?
Yes. When both languages are spoken, it interprets both directions automatically and labels every speaker. Each line keeps the original with the translation underneath.
Does it use Lei or tu?
It chooses from the context of the conversation. There is no setting for the form of address, so check it in lines you reuse in writing.
Does it understand Italian dialects?
Standard Italian works best. Strong dialect is harder for every speech system; check important lines against the recording.
Two directions, one device
When both English and Italian are being spoken, All Voices pairs them automatically and interprets both ways; when only one side needs translating, every line is rendered into the language you choose. Either way there is one transcript, with speakers labelled, audio kept, and a summary written when you stop. The first 30 minutes are free, without a card.
